Mathematics and Statistics Pass/Fail policies for the Academic Year 2020-2021

Please find below the Pass/Fail policies for the Academic Year 2020-2021:

1. Prior to the pandemic, a course taken pass-fail could only count towards any major only if it was the first course taken towards the major.

2. Any Mathematics and Statistics course taken at Williams in Spring 2020 (when all courses were required to be pass-fail) can count towards the major.

3. For the 2020-2021 Academic Year, in addition to the first course taken towards the major, any course other than Math 350/351 (Real/Applied Real) and Math 355 (Abstract Algebra) that has the pass/fail option available may be taken pass-fail and count towards the Mathematics major. Any of the courses Math 350/351 (Real/Applied Real) and Math 355 (Abstract Algebra) taken Pass/Fail during the Academic Year 2020-2021 will not count towards the Math major.

4. For the 2020-2021 Academic Year, none of the “core” courses Stat 346, Stat 360, and Stat 341 taken Pass/Fail can count towards the Statistics major. Electives can be taken Pass/Fail, but every major must have at least one 300-level elective and at least one 400-level elective taken for a grade.
